Rae Leonard Book Event: High Sobriety

Join us for an evening with Rae Leonard, author of High Sobriety: A trip Out Of The Bottle And Into Your Intuition. Rae will be reading from her book, selling and signing copies, and answering questions.

Rae Leonard is an intuitive, energy worker, author, and researcher and is skilled in a number of alternative healing modalities. Her latest book is HIGH SOBRIETY: A trip Out Of The Bottle And Into Your Intuition, a wild read where she shares her rocky road of addiction with a wry gleam. Her story moves from fleeting glimpses of her past, to a transformation of a life now filled with limitless self love, jubilant health, and boundless joy.

In her intuitive practice, Rae combines her innate gifts with “Healy”, a frequency device that sees divine beings in their most exalted state of health, physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually, in their highest state of consciousness. Healy technology delivers energetic adjustments which bring her clients effortlessly into that matching bioenergetic state by communicating to the quantum field, the information field in the unseen realm, that is just waiting for us to tap in. As Albert Einstein said, “Match the frequency of the reality that you want and you can not help but get that reality. This is not philosophy, this is physics.”

Rae works with The Holistic Health Community in Stone Ridge, New York, where alternative health practitioners offer a wide range of services at no charge to the community. She feels it is a model for a new paradigm of health care that addresses body, mind and spirit and that favors the least invasive modalities whenever possible!

Rae reminds us that we are not victims in this life. We are Divine Angelic Infinite Beings who can decide to change our lives at any moment. Rock bottom is simply when you quit digging.

Book Event: Witches Through History: Grimoire and Oracle Deck: 25 Cards for Spiritual, Magical & Meditative Practice

Join us for an afternoon with artist and author Devin Forst and pick up a copy of Witches Through History: Grimoire and Oracle Deck: 25 Cards for Spiritual, Magical & Meditative Practice.

His beautifully designed, boxed oracle set and 160-page history is ideal for anyone seeking guidance and inspiration from some of history’s most powerful witches and their craft. Written and illustrated by a practicing witch, this dramatic oracle set features a beautifully illustrated book and card deck inspired by the magical and mysterious tales of the witches, familiars, deities, and items within the pages of this striking guide.

Witches through History includes archetypes, profiles, and true accounts of women who were thought to have spoken with spirits or made bargains with the Devil—and how they used their midnight powers to help or harm members of their community—the instruments and methods of the craft, the use of familiar spirits, and various methods of witch-finding and hunting. Popular tropes and folklore dealing with witches offer readers a deeper understanding of this mysterious, magical, and sometimes tragic part of history. The twenty-five oracle cards feature iconic characters, deities, and items from the history of witchcraft, complemented by the five elements of the pentagram (water, earth, fire, air, and spirit). Illustrated with a modern gothic sensibility inspired by historical art and text, the set offers witches and those who admire them a vital daily tool for spiritual, magical, or meditative practice—or simply to use for fun.

About The Author

Devin Forst has created designs for Wicked Clothes and Creep-o-Rama and exhibited work at
Muzeo in Anaheim, California. His artwork and writing have appeared in publications such Mysticum Magicae.

Vintage Style Book Party

Join us for an afternoon welcoming writer and author Zoey Goto as she signs her book Vintage Style: Inside the Dapper World of Retro Enthusiasts AND writes about Hekate and "the sober scene." Buy a book, have it signed, and give her your quote about why you love our little oasis! We'll pop a bottle of 0ABV bubbly to celebrate!

Our love affair with the high street is slowly fading, with predictions that second-hand fashion will overtake fast fashion within the next decade. This movement away from mass produced clothing has been largely driven by millennial consumers, motivated by eco-concerns, financial restrictions and a desire to express more individuality through their styling and garments. Technology has also been a game-changer, with apps and websites eliminating the need to riffle through dusty piles of clothing to bag a bargain.

Vintage Style: Inside the Dapper World of Retro Enthusiasts taps into this current interest in retro fashion, by showcasing vintage style fans from around the world - from young women dressing at Louis XIV in London, to a Tiki-inspired palace in Palm Springs, and from a couple recreating The Golden Era of Hollywood in LA, to a Japanese Lolita in British suburbia.  Vintage Style peeks inside the wardrobes and lifestyles of each vintage enthusiast, showcasing the resourceful ways they are interpreting bygone styles, and asking them why they chose to live out of step with contemporary fashion. Packed with images and ideas to inspire fellow vintage style enthusiasts.

About the Author: Zoey Goto is a journalist and author, writing for international publications about fashion, lifestyle and travel. She writes for titles including GQ, GQ Style, The Times, Elle, Esquire and Numero magazine. Her journalism has seen her interviewing the actor Benedict Cumberbatch on the set of Sherlock, discussing 50 Shades of Grey with E.L. James, and having lunch with the soul legend Al Green. She is also author of the book Elvis Style: From Zoot Suits to Jumpsuits, and has been being interviewed by various media including The Wall Street Journal, The Guardian and BBC Radio.

Victorian Valentines Workshop: One Year Class Anniversary

THIS EVENT HAS BEEN MOVED ACROSS THE STREET TO LUCKY!
WE APOLOGIZE FOR ANY INCONVENIENCE!

Join our resident craftmistress, Artist and Educator Daniella D., and other local creatives and creative spirits, for a fun February crafternoon. We'll create modern twists on the Victorian Valentine, where heart-themes abound and the art-card creations come out beautifully.

Pick assorted images for your collaging pleasure, whose symbolism will be discussed. Explore the symbolism you relate to most to create your unique card. Learn about Floriography: the secret language of how Victorians communicated hidden desires through flowers, and Vinegar Valentines: hilarious mean-spirited Valentines that were sent anonymously.

History/Herstory: A version of Valentine's Day was observed in Ancient Rome, (it's gory) and it has pagan roots. But the Victorian English people popularized Valentine's cards with the advent of affordable printing and the penny postage stamp. Today we create our take on Victorian Valentines using our retro ribbons, lace, flowers, floral fabric, vintage collage images and magazine photos - all curated art materials from artist Daniella D's personal collection. Gift your finished piece or frame it as a keepsake, with even a simple dollar store frame.

About the artist: Daniella D. is a fun-loving, downtown artist and a Museum Educator with years of experience and a BA in Fine Arts and Art History. She is a warm and welcoming instructor who teaches unusual art activities like this workshop, and Gothic Garden Sketching 101. Daniella loves to work with upcycled materials whenever possible, to create paintings, collages, her House Blessing Shrines and her contemporary folk art/vintage punk ornaments.

Daniella teaches one monthly workshop class at Hekate, which features an art, craft, or costume class for all levels of creative types, or for those who want to incorporate more creativity into their lives. Workshop fees cover all materials and friendly instruction and is payable in person on the day of the class.

FB/IG: @artinlittleitaly

Workshop Fee: $25

Please RSVP: hekatenyc@gmail.com to reserve your spot! Walk-ins are welcome if there is space available, but an RSVP is the only way to guarantee a spot. You will be contacted only in the rare event of a cancellation or postponement.

Jenniferpodisdead's Valentine heART Work Opening

Join us tonight for our Valentine-centric art show opening, featuring work by Jenniferpodisdead. There will be a few interactive aspects to the evening, so come ready to participate!

"Before I was doing the art I'm doing now, I was creating art related to hearts and love, fucking with the idea of why hearts represent love. Some pieces were positive but most were more negative. Really it was just me working out all my relationship shit."

"I did a series of wheat pastings with one of my anatomical heart drawings and was planning to busting out with a few for fun for February, since i just found them, so this feels like a fun rehashing of old art and heart times. All these older paintings are more on the abstract side, with use of pen and ink, spray paint stencils, some lace, screen printing and acrylics. The repetitive heart image — almost like a doodle — represents how many times we try to find love with mostly the same disappointing result."

Jenniferpodisdead will be presenting a collection of “podentines“ as well, some nice and some not… We will have Valentines candy, bloody heart cookies, and the artist will lead everyone outdoors for some local wheatpasting. She has also created a very cool trophy for the person who shares the craziest dating or relationship story.

No prior experience necessary, no yoga experience necessary, and no mats required. Come as you are and let MegO guide you through an hour long session that will leave you saying, "Damn, that was fun!"

Cocktail Tasting

We've been invited to participate in a cocktail competition on January 31st. We're flattered to have been included even though we are NOT mixologists! We'll be mixing up some new combinations and we'd love your input! Help us decide which concoction to enter. It will be a regular night, with Nette behind the bar, but Abby will be experimenting. Be a guinea pig! Everyone is welcome, not just those who abstain, since the judges are NOT particularly sober. And if you consider yourself a fancy cocktail expert, we would especially appreciate your opinion!
