Victorian Valentine Workshop

A version of Valentine's Day was observed in Ancient Rome, (it's gory) and the holiday has pagan roots. But the Victorian English people popularized Valentine's cards with the advent of affordable printing and the penny postage stamp. Today we invite you to collage yourself a Victorian Valentine using our retro ribbons, lace, flowers, floral fabric, images and magazine photos - donated art materials from Daniella D's personal collection. She will help you put contemporary twists on Victorian images and explain Floriography, which is the secret language of how Victorians communicated about secret desires. The cards come out beautifully, and you can pick the symbolism you relate to most.

Daniella D. is a fun-loving downtown artist and a Museum Educator. She teaches unusual art activities like Victorian Valentine Making with a modern twist and Gothic Garden Sketching 101. Daniella loves to work with upcycled materials to create paintings, collages and her House Blessing Shrines. FB/IG: @artinlit for nowtleitaly
