Join our resident craftmistress, Artist and Educator, Daniella D., in this fun crafternoon of both whimsical and spiritual folk art. Each participant will create a colorful, creative mini-shrine, built inside of an Altoids tin. Or you can choose from a few other assorted tins on-hand. Take your sense of spirituality, or divine kitsch, on the go! Carry a little magic and confidence in your pocket!
Already know who or what your shrine will be devoted to? Then feel free to bring one or two images for your altar, measuring up to about 3" high and 2" across, we will affix inside the tins. (Not required.)
Will you make a shrine to Betty White, or Egyptian Cat Goddess Bastet, The Divine Feminine, or maybe to Divine? Perhaps to an element like Fire, or a concept like Balance and Harmony?
Daniella can also help you decide your shrine's theme and guide you in realizing your concept and creation!
You will learn: collaging, gluing, and paint techniques for tin, symbol meanings and placement, and the art origins behind this workshop. This altar-making workshop is inspired by Mexican retablos, Latin American and Italian American folk art, and the classic and colorful LES and E. Village shops of yesteryear, such as Little Ricky's, Love Shrine, and Mod World, which sold such inspirational altar items, and matchbox and pocket shrines.
Choose from our assortment of: paint colors, talismans, milagros, embellishments, good luck charms, collage images, paper and plastic flowers, incense cones, found/vintage objects, and gemstones - just some of the items you can build on and collage into your shrine to make a truly unique, divine diptych. Many unique items provided by Daniella from her personal collection
